Evonik solutions for protein and amino acids in feed premixes
- Free flow aid
- Anti-caking agent
Proteins and amino acids are essential in animal feed. However, these hygroscopic ingredients are sticky and tend to cake during processing. Manufacturers need highly efficient free flow aids and anti-caking agents to incorporate these into feed premixes, for example hydrolysates of casein, whey, soy, corn or wheat, fishmeal, or amino acids such as lysine, methionine and threonine.
Evonik’s SIPERNAT® and ZEOFREE® silica and silicates improve flowability and reliably prevent caking by reducing interparticle interactions and absorbing moisture or liquids. Designed especially for processing proteins, Evonik offers two high-performance anti-caking agents: SIPERNAT® D 17 and ZEOFREE® 600 LA.
SIPERNAT® D 17 is a precipitated hydrophobic silica with a hydrophobic surface. It prevents hygroscopic powders from adsorbing moisture. Low dosage levels are needed to ensure powders remain free flowing during the production process and prolonged periods of storage.

ZEOFREE® 600 LA is a precipitated calcium silicate with a high surface area. It absorbs residual fats and oils to prevent bridging between particles, thereby improving powder rheology.
Silica for efficient and sustainable feed production
As a naturally derived mineral ingredient, it is a safe and well-tried ingredient and processing aid for livestock feed. Silica products contribute to efficient and sustainable processing. As free flow aids and anti-caking agents in premix formulations, they prevent the caking of powders and clogging in silos, pipes, and processing equipment. Less of the valuable raw material is lost as production waste. Manufacturers benefit from shorter cleaning downtimes, which in turn saves water, energy and labor costs. Overall, less CO2e is wasted per feed batch produced.
