MetAMINO®

MetAMINO® is a white to yellowish crystalline amino acid manufactured at purity levels exceeding 99% DL-methionine. It plays a pivotal role in balancing nutrition to maximize performance for monogastric farm animals, pets and aquatic species. Besides MetAMINO®, Evonik offers Mepron®, a rumen-stable form of methionine.

Typical Applications

To precisely meet the total sulfur amino acids requirements of methionine and methionine + cysteine, diets for monogastric farm animals, pets and aquatic species are commonly supplemented with MetAMINO®.

Methionine is the first limiting amino acid in commercial poultry diets, in milk production, and typically in fish diets. It is also the third or fourth limiting amino acid in modern swine diets.

Benefits at a glance

  • >99% purity for consistent feed performance with minimal safety margins
  • 100% bio-efficacy and fast absorption deliver high nutritional value
  • Helps reduce production costs and increase profit margins
  • Crystalline form facilitates easy storage, handling, and mixing
  • Shorter cycle times through precise dosing and homogenous mixing
  • Production in three global regions ensures highest supply security

Less is more: Reduce feed costs and increase profitability with MetAMINO®

An illustration with two circles indicates that 65 units of MetAMINO can effectively replace 100 units methionine hydroxy analogue

Because it’s about 65

Over 30 years of research, validated by numerous animal performance trials, shows that 65 units of MetAMINO® can replace 100 units of methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA) products without compromising animal performance (e.g. Lemme et al., 2020; Li et al., 2023). This concept allows customers to use less methionine while achieving the same results, thereby lowering feed costs, increasing profitability and contributing to a more sustainable future.

MetAMINO® – the essential building block for optimized animal nutrition

Effective strategy to lower feed costs

Methionine plays a foundational role in animal nutrition. As an essential amino acid, it serves as a building block for synthesizing peptides and proteins that are incorporated into body tissues, feathers and eggs for optimal growth performance, health, body weight gain and feed conversion. Moreover, methionine is important in the synthesis of polyamines as a donor of methyl groups for DNA and as a precursor to cysteine. The latter is used to form glutathione, a major antioxidant that plays a role in the immune function. In its DL-methionine form, MetAMINO® is part of an effective strategy to lower feed costs by reducing expensive crude protein levels and nitrogen excretion while contributing to a more sustainable livestock farming.

Market-leading product carbon footprint

Evonik's commitment to cutting-edge production technology minimizes our environmental impact. A lifecycle assessment shows that one unit of MetAMINO® generates 2.89 units of CO2 equivalent. When weighted according to bioavailable methionine content, according to Evonik’s own benchmarking process, the carbon footprint of MetAMINO® is approximately 35% lower than the global industry average.*

Supply security through a global production network

Evonik, the world's largest methionine producer, has an integrated global production network strategically located across all regions, in Singapore (Asia), Antwerp (Europe), and Mobile, Alabama (the Americas). This allows us to stay close to our customers and markets, ensuring the most efficient and sustainable supply chains possible.
