K-pron®

K-pron® is a potassium carbonate hydrate supplement that helps to fulfill the potassium requirements of animals under various conditions while having a rumen-buffering effect supporting microbial activity and fermentation in ruminants.

Typical Applications

Typical inclusion in dairy cow rations can be up to 250 g per cow per day, depending on ration composition and environmental conditions. Inclusion rates in poultry feed can be up to 3 kg/mt and depend on raw material composition, in particular soybean inclusion levels.

Benefits at a glance

  • Pure potassium source with a defined potassium concentration for easy integration into feeding programs
  • Increases feed intake and higher milk yield and milk fat
  • Supports high potassium requirements in heat stress conditions
  • Buffers both the rumen and metabolism
  • Helps maintain correct potassium and DCAD levels in growing and laying poultry
  • Better handling capacity of the hydrate form

How to enhance milk production in critical phases

Potassium carbonate hydrate is the ideal compound to ensure that feed for dairy cows contains the required amount of potassium. It reduces the activity of specific bacterial species responsible for producing intermediates of lipid biohydrogenation, which causes reduced milk fat production. At the metabolic level, increasing the dietary cation-anion difference (DCAD) with potassium supplementation helps to maintain the acid-base balance and related physiological and cell functions, which is essential during heat stress periods. By ensuring adequate potassium intake, K-pron® not only promotes better feed intake but also enhances milk production, particularly during critical phases of lactation and heat stress.

A crucial tool for DCAD management in poultry diets

In recent years, numerous trials have shown the benefit of maintaining a minimum dietary cation-anion difference (DCAD) level. The benefits are seen in both growing poultry and egg-producing birds. While implementing such a minimum DCAD level can incur higher feed expenses, incorporating K-pron® into poultry diets on a least-cost formulation basis can achieve the desired DCAD levels without compromising profitability.

The impact of low crude protein diets

Increasingly, nutritionists look to reduce the crude protein content of livestock feed, especially in poultry. One of the main effects of such an approach is reduced soybean meal inclusion rates. As soya contains high levels of potassium, such diets can lead to potassium deficiencies and failure to meet minimum DCAD (dietary cation-anion difference) levels. Including K-pron® in these diets is a cost-effective solution that restores potassium levels and supports optimal DCAD.
