ALBIDUR® PU 5640 is a 40% concentrate of a high performance elastomer in a short chain trifunctional polypropylene glycol. It is used to increase toughness of otherwise brittle PU systems. The elastomeric component is a special silicone rubber, which is distributed in the liquid resin as finely dispersed second phase.
Typical Applications
ALBIDUR® PU 5640 is mainly used as a base compound or additive to create tough, rigid one or two component polyurethane formulations by imparting additional strength and typical silicone properties to the finished product. Consistent properties throughout the finished particle are ensured by the homogenous distribution of the silicone elastomer particles throughout the polyurethane formulation.
Benefits at a glance
In comparison to unmodified PU-Systems, ALBIDUR® PU 5640-modified PUs shows the following benefits
Another key benefit during the modification of PU-systems with ALBIDUR® PU 5640 is the combination of the unique properties of elastomers with typical PU properties. The morphology of this "elastomeric alloy" is characterized by a near perfect phase separation between the silicone and the PU elastomer phases. This two-phase morphology results in a synergistic addition of the properties of both materials.Silicone containing resin formulations should not be used in direct neighborhood to open electromechanical contacts.
- Improved physical strength (tear and tensile), even at very low temperatures
- Improved surface quality (reduced coefficient of friction)
- Higher abrasion resistance
- Significantly improved dielectric properties (dielectric constant, loss angle and volume resistivity)
