4-Hydroxy TEMPO is a stable free radical that is primarily used as an inhibitor of free-radical polymerization of vinyl monomers during processing.
It can also be used in a wide range of other applications where radical scavenging is required.
Typical Applications
4-Hydroxy TEMPO will stop unwanted polymerization of vinyl monomers during production. For example it is injected on a continuous basis into plants producing high purity styrene monomer to avoid fouling caused by a build-up of polystyrene. Similarly it is widely used in other monomer processes including ethylene, butadiene, acrylics and vinyl acetate, but is normally supplied in solution in an appropriate solvent with other additives, which are also available from Evonik under the SiYPro® brand.
