ACCUREL® DS 220 is a highly loaded “dry silane” concentrate, based on HDPE and GLYMO (3-Glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane). It is bifunctional, possessing a reactive epoxide and hydrolysable inorganic methoxy silyl groups.
Typical Applications
The dual nature of the dry silane concentrate ACCUREL® DS 220, allows the chemical binding of inorganic materials (e.g. glass, metals, fillers) and organic polymers (e.g. thermosets, thermoplastics, elastomers) functioning as an adhesion promotor, crosslinker or surface modifier.
Benefits at a glance
ACCUREL® DS 220 is used in thermoplastic applications to improve:
In the presents of humidity, the methoxy groups of ACCUREL® DS 220 can hydrolyze to form reactive silanol groups, which can bond to a variety of organic groups or on inorganic fillers. The organophilic glycidyl end can react with suitable polymers. The curing of the alkoxy groups depends on time, temperature, thickness of the parts and the available moisture. To enhance the bonding, due to the hydrolysis, catalysts like organic acids or organo metal components as DBTL can be added separately.
- The embedding of fillers and flame retardants, like ATH or MDH in compounds for several applications
- The adhesion on solid surfaces
- The heat distortion temperature and hot set performance of various polymers and cable compounds
- Mechanical properties, such as flexural strength, tensile strength, impact strength and modulus of elasticity
- Moisture and corrosion resistance
- Electrical properties, for example CTI value or dielectric constant, volume resistivity
