For over 20 years, Creavis has been the place at Evonik where we have been shaping the future. We have researched, discovered and laid the technological foundations. But the challenges of our time demand more than just knowledge – they demand speed and faster commercial implementation.
That is why we are transforming Creavis into the Evonik Innovation Factory.
The focus is shifting: from pure research to targeted development. We are retaining our scientific excellence and curiosity, but are consistently aligning them with industrial market readiness. The Innovation Factory is our promise not only to identify promising technologies, but also to put them on the fast track to application in a somewhat more unconventional way.

Who we are and how we work
The Evonik Innovation Factory is the central unit for combinatorial innovation at Evonik. We operate at the interface between research, industrial production and business. Our mission is to take complex technologies and, within a fixed timeframe of five years on average, develop them into practical ‘products’ that are ready for the global market.
What distinguishes us
- Combinatorial innovation: We don’t always reinvent the wheel. We combine existing expertise with science, start-up ecosystems and industry partners to create new core competencies that deliver tangible benefits at Evonik. This saves time and minimises risks.
- The five ‘production lines’: We work in a structured manner. Across five parallel programmes, we pool global expertise from chemistry, engineering, marketing and project management.
- Entrepreneurial focus: For us, a project is only successful once every aspect of the business model’s application – from the associated production processes and value chains right through to marketability – has been resolved. We don’t think in terms of laboratory measurements, but in terms of market solutions.
- A global innovation network: The Innovation Factory operates within the world’s most dynamic ecosystems. Through our hubs – from the Cambridge Innovation Satellite in Boston to biotechnology research in Singapore and the Membrane Centre in Shanghai – we ensure direct access to talent and cutting-edge technologies.
- Partnership on equal terms: In future, we will combine our own expertise even more closely with external input from science, start-up ecosystems and industry partners. This will lead to faster development of technically and commercially robust solutions that deliver direct industrial benefits and meet real market requirements.
