Electrifying chemistry

Electrochemistry is actually a centuries-old hat - but a hat that fits perfectly into today's world. Electrochemistry is capable of transforming substances into high-quality chemicals with low energy requirements. Patrik Stenner and his team in Hanau are working on recovering valuable raw materials from process streams with the help of green electricity. The process is called electrodialysis.

Reborn rubber

Whether electric, diesel or petrol: all cars need tires. Only a few percent of the mass of used tires is currently returned to the road as new tires. The rest is used for other purposes or simply incinerated. Christian Mani explains how experts in Marl and Wesseling near Cologne can multiply the proportion of recycled tires.
