A Sustainable Allrounder with Multifunctionality

Dynasylan^® SIVO products are able to combine two or more functions. The modular system has been created so Evonik customers can address their specific concept and requirement profiles to achieve a product which exceeds expectations. With the end customer in mind, these products have reduced toxicity and take environmental sustainability into consideration during the production and application stages. Dynasylan^® SIVO 140 is an water-based silane binder. Systems based on Dynasylan^® SIVO 140 protect steel constructions from corrosion regardless of the industry. 

Corrosion is a serious problem for bridges, machines, and buildings. Once corrosion takes effect, it is a drain on resources as well as the wallet. The global cost of corrosion is enormous and equivalent to 3.4% of the Global Gross Domestic Product (GDP, 2013) (Source NACE International). Appropriate protective measures can reduce the costs of maintenance and extend the life of bridges and other steel infrastructures. Environmental factors are another point of concern. Dynasylan^® SIVO 140 is water-borne and not solvent-borne, which means the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is reduced. When considering the size of a bridge and its application area, VOCs are significant. Zinc dust paints based on Dynasylan^® SIVO 140 can reduce the VOC emission by more than 90%. Where steel constructions and the environment need protection, SIVO 140 can be applied. Application on ships, bridges, pylons, and oil and gas pipes are all possible. And more than that, owing to the higher heat resistance of Dynasylan^® SIVO 140 compared to zinc dust paints based on organic binders, application on exhaust pipes is possible. 

The corrosion protection performance of systems based on Dynasylan^® SIVO 140 have been tested successfully and they are equal to solvent-borne systems. Additionally, Dynasylan^® SIVO 140 allows for fast and safe processing. Water-borne paint does not mean longer drying times. A topcoat can be applied 1 hour after the application of the Dynasylan^® SIVO 140. Furthermore, when Dynasylan^® SIVO 140 is used with SILIKOPON EF, the coating layers can be reduced from three to two allowing for even faster processing. Application to bridges, ships, and pylons is easy. There is no need for specialist equipment for formulation or application.

Dynasylan^® SIVO 140 offers a double benefit for the environment. Corrosion protection extends the life of structures. This prevents waste and the resources can be put to better use, but it also means a reduction of VOCs. Its unbeatable corrosive protection can be applied to marine structures such as ships, containers, and off-shore structures as well industrial constructions and buildings.
