Patrick's Fascination for 3D-Printed Reactors
Hello everyone! My name is Patrick. I originally come from Canada, but I grew up in Karlsruhe, Germany. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Chemical Engineering at ETH Zurich in Switzerland.
Why did I choose Evonik?
During my search for an internship, Evonik particularly caught my attention when I discovered the group “Particle Processing - Simulation and Additive Manufacturing 3D,” which conducts research on 3D-printed reactors. 3D printing of reactors? This was a completely new approach to me for optimizing reaction processes and making them more sustainable.
What was my experience at Evonik like?
During my internship, I was actively involved in the design of a 3D-printed reactor and created designs that were used for other industrial facilities. In addition, I contributed to the integration of process and sensor data for reactor modeling and advanced the optimization of 3D mesh models. What I found particularly exciting was experiencing the entire process, from reactor design all the way to the finished printed model.
Another aspect was the work-life balance at Evonik. Thanks to flexible working hours, I was able to perfectly combine my studies and exams with my work.
Working with my colleagues was a daily source of motivation. I also met many other interns from all over the world. Together, we organized events such as laser tag, trips to the surrounding area, and game nights.
What did I gain from the internship?
At the beginning of my internship, I had no practical work experience. However, my time at Evonik allowed me to gain valuable insights into the operations of a large company and to build a wide range of practical skills and experiences.
I was impressed that a global chemical company like Evonik is not afraid to drive innovative projects forward. I can do much more than simply recommend an internship here!
