Tokyo. Polyplastics-Evonik Corporation, a joint venture between Evonik Industries AG and Daicel Corporation, has announced that its high-performance transparent polyamide, TROGAMID®, has been adopted in the new “Seiko Light and Fitting – Black Leaf” eyewear series by Seiko Optical Products Co., Ltd.
Developed to meet the seemingly contradictory demands of a luxurious yet comfortable design, Seiko Optical Products’ innovative eyewear frame was envisioned to achieve a “thin, lightweight, and luxurious design” that is difficult to realize with conventional acetate materials. As such, the team sought new material possibilities from the early stages of development. They then turned their attention to TROGAMID®.
“When frames are heavy, they put pressure on the ears and nose during long wear. On the other hand, if they’re too light, they can lose their sense of luxury. TROGAMID® enabled us to achieve both,” said a developer from the Frame Division at Seiko Optical Products.
TROGAMID® was highly evaluated as an ideal material for eyewear frames. Its high toughness allows for thin, lightweight, and durable designs, providing a comfortable wearing experience. The frames feature a luxurious design with the “TROGAMID®” logo engraved in gold, directly conveying the material’s reliability and brand value to users.
Polyplastics-Evonik Corporation will continue to support product development across various industries, including eyewear, through the provision of high-performance resins.
