Evonik sells Hanau-based production assets for pharmaceutical ingredients to ProChem
- Transfer of production assets to the ProChem Group on June 19, 2026
- Asset streamlining reinforces Evonik Health Care’s strategic focus on core growth areas
- Continued operation of Hanau facility for clinical and commercial-scale pharmaceutical lipids
Evonik is selling selected production assets for pharmaceutical ingredients in Hanau, Germany to the contract manufacturer ProChem Group. The transaction, which is expected to close on June 19, 2026, supports the growth strategy of Evonik’s Health Care business. By acquiring the facilities, the ProChem Group will strengthen its production capabilities, enhance its technological expertise, and expand its services to pharmaceutical customers.
Evonik’s Health Care business is streamlining its asset footprint to focus investment and growth in its core areas of expertise. These include advanced oral and injectable drug delivery technologies and precision biosolutions such as lipids for mRNA and gene delivery, and advanced cell‑culture ingredients.
“Refining our focus and aligning our assets enables us to deliver even more strongly in the areas where we create the highest value for our customers,” said Guido Skudlarek, head of the Health Care business line.
Evonik’s Hanau site has long supported the pharmaceutical industry with a portfolio of APIs, intermediates, and pharmaceutical lipids. As part of the Health Care business’s growth strategy, the company discontinued its keto acid production in Hanau at the end of 2025. The entire portfolio of pharmaceutical-grade keto and amino acids is now consolidated under the brand REXIM® at Evonik sites in Wuming, China and in Ham, France.
“With this step we are strengthening our position in these highly attractive markets to offer our customers supply security with a broad portfolio across markets,” said Thomas Hermann, head of the REXIM® product line.

Evonik’s Hanau-based GMP facility for advanced pharmaceutical lipids - used in drug‑delivery technologies such as RNA therapeutics - will continue to operate, providing clinical and small‑scale commercial quantities in line with the company’s strategic focus on high‑growth areas.
With the acquisition of Evonik’s GMP‑compliant production facilities for pharmaceutical ingredients, ProChem is creating new industrial opportunities for the future of the Hanau site.
“We are gaining state-of-the-art facilities, quality-assured processes, and an excellent industrial infrastructure at the Hanau site,” said Jörg Blumhoff, Chief Sales Officer at the ProChem Group. “This enables us to significantly expand our service portfolio and offer our customers even more comprehensive, scalable, and regulatory-compliant solutions in the future.”
ProChem is a multi‑site contract manufacturer with broad capabilities in chemical production and analytics. Its services span synthesis, distillation, extraction, drying, mixing, grinding, sieving, packaging, and in‑depth analytical testing. The company supports a wide array of industries, from pharmaceuticals and cosmetics to food additives and specialty chemicals.
As a partner to the pharmaceutical industry, Evonik offers a broad, versatile portfolio of functional excipients, technologies, and contract manufacturing (CDMO) services for oral and parenteral dosage forms. End-to-end CDMO capabilities for small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), highly potent APIs and intermediates, as well as high-quality innovative cell culture solutions are also a cornerstone in Evonik’s Health Care portfolio.
