Markets & Applications
Biolys®: enhanced efficiency and performance alongside sustainability gains
Enhancing the amino acid profile in feed
Biolys® serves as a highly concentrated source of L-lysine, an essential amino acid that plays a critical role in animal nutrition. By enhancing the amino acid profile in feed, Biolys® ensures that poultry, swine, and aquatic species receive the necessary nutrients to support growth, health, and overall productivity. The unique fermentation process used to produce Biolys® allows for a more efficient absorption of L-lysine, which translates into improved feed efficiency.
Market-leading product carbon footprint
Biolys® is produced through an advanced fermentation process that utilizes renewable resources, ensuring a high-quality product while prioritizing sustainability. Our production facilities in Blair, Nebraska, US, and Castro, Brazil, are strategically located in major corn-producing regions, ensuring a steady supply of corn-derived dextrose. Both plants meet 100 percent of their electrical energy needs from renewable sources. Since 2021, Evonik has reduced the CO2 emissions from its Biolys® production by about 20 percent. Its product-specific carbon footprint is now just 1.30 units CO2 equivalent, the lowest carbon footprint for lysine on the market.
