DABCO® BL 11

Typical Applications

DABCO® BL 11 can be used in a broad range of foam formulations. The strong catalytic effect on the blow reaction can be balanced by the addition of a strong gel catalyst, e.g. DABCO® 33 LV. If amine emissions are a concern, low emission alternatives are available for many end use applications. Although, DABCO® BL 11 is not recommended for spray foam applications.
Very consistent control of the foaming process can be achieved when using DABCO® BL 11 in flexible foam due to the unique combination of highly efficient chelation of water, thereby promoting the blow reaction, and superior coordination with the gel reaction of the tin catalyst, ultimately providing significant performance potential. The rising speed can be varied in a wide range by changing the applied concentration of DABCO® BL 11 without impairing the open-celled structure of the foam.
Common use levels of DABCO® BL 11 are in the range of 0.05 and 0.20 parts per 100 parts of polyol. The optimal concentration will depend on the application, foam type and specifics of the formulation.
