1-Butene

An unsaturated hydrocarbon (olefin), a colorless, inflammable gas with a characteristic odor that is easily condensable under pressure.

Typical Applications

Plastics producing find versatile use as a comonomer. Especially in the manufacturing of polyethylene (LLDPE, HDPE), co-polymers with ethylene / propylene or other alkylation products. As intermediates, such as sec-butanol, butene oxide or amyl alcohol are other applications accessible. These include anti-oxidants, plasticizers, herbicides, corrosion inhibitors or additives for lubricating and hydraulic oils.

Benefits at a glance

Butene-1 is commonly used as a comonomer in producing high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), enhancing polymer properties like flexibility and strength. Moreover, Butene-1 serves as a monomer for Polybutene-1 which offers advantages in piping and packaging due to its durability and heat resistance and is used as a building block for several specialty chemical applications.
