Powerful Performance & Lasting Protection with VISIOMER® HEMA-P

VISIOMER® HEMA-P is a high-performance methacrylate monomer that delivers strong adhesion, flame retardancy, and corrosion resistance. Designed for coatings, adhesives, and composites, it ensures long-lasting durability and improved bonding—especially in halogen-free and transparent systems.

Ideal for industrial applications, VISIOMER® HEMA-P helps manufacturers achieve better strength-to-weight ratios and reliable performance on polar substrates like glass, metal, and minerals.

Functional Monomers for Adhesion and Corrosion Protection in Coatings and Composites

VISIOMER® HEMA-P is a phosphate methacrylate designed to enhance performance across a wide range of applications. Its unique chemical structure enables strong adhesion, improved corrosion resistance, and compatibility with various resin systems. Below, you’ll find key application areas where VISIOMER® HEMA-P delivers measurable value in formulation and end-use performance.

Application Areas

VISIOMER® HEMA-P 70M  and VISIOMER® HEMA-P 100  are popular options of modern coating systems, providing superior adhesion to polar surfaces like minerals, glass, and metals. In direct-to-metal coatings, these monomers also improve corrosion resistance, making them ideal for use in harsh environments.

Our studies on acrylic emulsions with 7 wt% of VISIOMER® HEMA-P 70M demonstrate enhanced corrosion resistance compared to resins without any anti-corrosion agent.

Marine & Protective Coatings

VISIOMER® HEMA-P is a polymerizable flame-retardant combining phosphoric acid for fire resistance and a methacrylate group for stable integration into polymers. It delivers non-migrating flame protection and is ideal for transparent waterborne coatings on wood, paper, and textiles.

To boost the flame‑retardant level of waterborne acrylic coatings, the optimal combination of VISIOMER® HEMA‑P and ammonium polyphosphate (APP) delivers high transparency in waterborne wood coatings along with excellent flame‑retardancy.

Incorporating 5-20% of the functional co-monomer VISIOMER® HEMA-P into the waterborne dispersions ensures excellent dispersion of the flame-retardant APP.

VISIOMER® HEMA-P, a polymerizable dispersing agent, simplifies production by eliminating the need for filler pre-treatment. It improves dispersion stability, lowers viscosity, and supports higher filler loadings without sagging.

VISIOMER® HEMA‑P is a polymerizable flame retardant that combines phosphoric acid for fire resistance with a methacrylate group for stable, non‑migrating integration into cast PMMA. It significantly reduces burning time in UL 94 tests, and at 30 wt% loading it enables PMMA to reach the V‑0 classification. The use of release agents is recommended to prevent adhesion of the cast acrylic sheets to the mold.

VISIOMER® HEMA‑P is a highly effective adhesion promoter widely used in adhesive formulations. As a functional co‑monomer, VISIOMER® HEMA‑P enhances adhesion to polar substrates such as minerals, glass, and metals. Even at addition levels below 1%, it delivers strong performance and reliable bonding.

Strong bonding through methacrylate-based adhesives

As an adhesion promoter, VISIOMER® HEMA-P improves the adhesion of the composite matrix to the glass fibers and results in an increased ILSS (Interlaminar Shear Strength). It helps to improve the strength-to-weight-ratio in glass-fiber reinforced composites.

VISIOMER® HEMA-P products can be used as co-reactive diluent in UPR or VE composite resins.
