High-Performance Protection & Aesthetic Finishes

Automotive coatings are sophisticated multi-layer systems designed to protect vehicle surfaces while delivering long-lasting appearance, color and gloss. In car body coatings, epoxy chemistry plays an important role in the first layers. Cathodic Electro Deposition, or CED, provides essential corrosion protection, while the primer layer improves durability by smoothing surface irregularities and helping shield the body from mechanical impacts such as stone chips.

Polyurethane coating technologies are used in later layers to combine aesthetic appeal with technical performance. Water-based polyurethane dispersions can be used in basecoat systems, where pigments create the vehicle’s color and visual character. The final clear coat or topcoat provides decoration and protection, ensuring excellent leveling for a smooth surface and high-gloss finish.

These coating layers help protect against UV radiation, which can cause polymer degradation, chemical exposure from substances such as gasoline, tree sap and bird droppings, and mechanical impacts, including scratches and stone chips that affect both appearance and the integrity of the coating system.

We support automotive coating formulators with technologies for clear coats, primers, chassis coatings, underbody protection, rims and trim. ANCAMIDE® and ANQUAMINE® curing agents provide corrosion resistance for chassis and underbody primers, while VESTANAT® EP-M clear coat technologies combine polyurethane flexibility with glass-like hardness for excellent scratch and chemical resistance. Smart Materials for High-quality Lighting and Components

Strong Bonding and Reliable Sealing for Modern Vehicle Design

Lightweight construction, mixed-material assemblies, miniaturization and increasing vehicle complexity place high demands on automotive bonding and sealing. We offer a broad range of amine-based curing agents, accelerators and adhesion promoters for high-performance adhesive and sealant systems used across body shop, paint shop, repair and structural applications.

Our epoxy curing technologies enable strong adhesion to metals, polymers, glass, ceramics and composite materials. They help formulators achieve the right balance of mechanical strength, flexibility, impact resistance, thermal stability, chemical resistance and processing performance and includes solutions for both one-component and two-component epoxy systems.

In body shop applications, DICYANEX® and AMICURE® micronized dicyandiamide and accelerators are used in 1K epoxy systems for crash-stable, hem flange and structural adhesives. They combine high performance with easy handling and long formulation latency.

PVC plastisols are also essential in automotive paint shop operations, where they support corrosion protection, waterproofing, bonding and sealing of seams and joints. They protect external surfaces such as underbody constructions, rocker panels and sills. NOURYBOND® adhesion promoters help improve adhesion to modern e-coat primed steel substrates, enabling plastisol developers and formulators to meet the challenges of evolving automotive primer systems.
