NextGen Technologies at Evonik Crosslinkers
At Evonik Crosslinkers, we are committed to our Sustainable Corporate Strategy, focusing on two key pillars: Next Generation Solutions (market perspective) and Next Generation Technologies (asset perspective).
Next Generation Technologies encompass innovative measures implemented at our production facilities and infrastructure, all aimed at significantly reducing our CO2 emissions. By investing in the latest technologies and sustainable practices, we strive to minimize our environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Our ambitious sustainability targets
Evonik and the Crosslinkers business line are commited to specific sustainability targets.
Evonik's goal is to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and we are committed to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). Our reduction targets are therefore in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
In the year under review, SBTi successfully validated the climate targets submitted by Evonik. SBTi confirmed that the level of ambition of the Scope 1 and Scope 2 targets is suitable for helping to reduce global warming to well below 2 °C. Our overarching Scope 1 and Scope 2 target envisages a 25 % reduction in the corresponding emissions between 2021 and 2030.
In addition, Evonik is committed to reducing all other Scope 3 emissions from all upstream categories and the downstream category, "Transportation and Distribution" by 11.07 % over the same period.
In order to align with existing environmental targets, Evonik has adjusted its previous energy target and is now focusing on the implementation of energy efficiency measures.
The goal is to achieve total savings of 1,200 GWh of energy from implemented energy efficiency projects by 2030 (reference year 2021).
Evonik continues to strive for significant energy savings as part of the energy management system (EnMS) criteria in accordance with the international ISO 50001 standard.
Our approach to waste management follows a clear principle: Our top priority is to avoid waste, if waste is unavoidable, it should either be recycled or utilized for energy generation. Only if these options are not feasible should safe disposal be considered as a last resort.
Our target at Evonik is to reduce specific production waste volume by 10 % relative to production volume between 2021 and 2030.
We plan to achieve our target through a wide range of actions applied across all of our production sites. Identification of these actions and budgeting for their implementation are being carried out as part of our EAGER project.
Through our global circular economy program, we are further committed to making circularity possible. Our goal is to generate at least €1 billion in additional sales with circular products and technologies by 2030.
We are committed to enhancing water usage efficiency in our operations as well as throughout the upstream and downstream value chain.
In our production processes, we conserve water wherever possible and endeavor to achieve a further reduction: Our aim is to reduce specific freshwater intake by 3 % relative to production volume between 2021 and 2030.
This voluntary corporate target aims to reflect the special significance of freshwater compared with seawater.
We plan to achieve our target through a wide range of actions applied across all of our production sites. Identification of these actions and budgeting for their implementation are being carried out as part of our EAGER project.
