Significant reduction in product carbon footprint:
Start cutting emissions with us today.

Evonik’s “Way to GO2” approach makes it even easier for companies to meet their sustainability goals. Our peracetic acid is now available with a significantly reduced environmental footprint: Meet Evonik’s low carbon footprint peracetic acid, or LCF PAA. We accomplish this through a certified mass balance system compliant with the latest standards and the TfS PCF Guideline.

This low‑carbon variant of our high-quality peracetic acid is chemically identical to the conventional version — no changes in grade, specification, or regulatory framework — ensuring seamless integration into existing processes. It supports scope 3 emission reductions and is backed by TÜV Rheinland certification.

Customers can select the same high‑quality Evonik peracetic acid (PAA) with its standard product carbon footprint (PCF) or with a low carbon footprint (LCF). The chart illustrates how the LCF option consistently delivers significantly lower carbon values across multiple PAA concentrations. It also highlights that the inclusion of Bio‑C further amplifies these reductions, especially at higher concentrations. Overall, the comparison shows that customers can achieve meaningful climate impact without changing product performance or formulation.

Production Process of an Already Very Sustainable Chemical

By differentiating both acetic acid and H₂O₂ sources by their sustainable attributes, we apply a certified mass balance approach.

This enables us to create, for each PAA product in the whole portfolio, a low-carbon-footprint version without interfering with our products’ high technical quality as well as regulatory framework.

The footprint of peracetic acid will substantially benefits from the technical transformation we are implementing within our hydrogen peroxide production.

Project Roadmap for More Low Carbon Footprint Peracetic Acid to Come

Ongoing decarbonization projects such as renewable heating sources and green hydrogen will further reduce the footprint of PAA in the years ahead. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy aimed at lowering carbon emissions across the entire value chain while maintaining high production efficiency. By integrating innovative technologies and expanding low carbon infrastructure, Evonik Active Oxygens is strengthening its position as a leader in sustainable peroxide and peracetic acid solutions. Ultimately, this continuous transformation supports customers in achieving their own climate targets and contributes to a more environmentally responsible chemical industry.
