Propylene oxide is an essential building block for producing polyurethane, which is widely used in applications such as insulation foams and everyday items like seat cushions. As demand for these products grows, the need for propylene oxide continues to rise as well.

HPPO—short for hydrogen-peroxide-to-propylene-oxide—is a process that enables the direct synthesis of propylene oxide using hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) as the oxidant. The HPPO technology offers several advantages, including lower investment requirements, reduced energy consumption, more efficient use of resources, and the elimination of co‑products other than water.

Propylene glycol is a highly versatile chemical used in applications ranging from de‑icing fluids to animal feed. As demand for these products continues to rise, global demand for propylene glycol is increasing as well. Evonik and Dow jointly developed the hydrogen‑peroxide‑to‑propylene‑glycol (HPPG) process, which is licensed under the HYPROSYN® brand.

Producers can adapt existing propylene glycol plants to the HYPROSYN® process, allowing them to eliminate intermediate steps and achieve a more streamlined, efficient, and productive manufacturing pathway for this important substance.
