RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful student must be able to work on a variety of items and enjoy being challenged with a range of projects.
Some examples of problems to be solved includes

  •  Work with the Operations team to understand the process, learn about the pinch points and work with the teams to recommend improvements
  •  Part of above will be working with the Site Manager and Engineering Manager to build a network of data collection to identify opportunities for improvement and begin implementing SPC and SQC processes to drive a proactive vs. reactive culture
  • Update Operating Procedures and Standard Operating Conditions
  • Implement audit findings and small projects to support safety, quality and process improvements in an operating Hydrogen Peroxide Plant
  •  Investigate site steam, electricity, process water and cooling water consumption and make recommendations for reduction without impacting Plant Operations
  •  Improving the site Process Safety Management (PSM) systems
  •  Other tasks designed to support the plant. These could involve sizing equipment, writing and supervising plant tests, organizing Process Safety Information and other general support to plant operations.
  • Students will have the opportunity to be involved in Process Hazard Analysis as they are scheduled and collaborate with other sites technical personnel to build their technical knowledge


REQUIREMENTS

•    Junior to Intermediate Chemical Or Nanotechnology Engineering Student
•    Ability to work Safely, this is an Operating Chemical Plant
•    Strong verbal communication skills and a desire to learn
•    Excellent writing and documentation skills
Transportation and Housing:    Limited public transit is available, having access to a car is helpful. Look at www.riverroute.ca to understand the transit offering.

Students are responsible for finding their own housing. Site staff will give contacts if requested.

Compensation and Benefits:    The hourly rate for this role depends on the work term of the successful student. The salary range at Maitland site is $23 to $36 per hour depending on the experience of the student.
