The Chemistry Associate will conduct chemical synthesis and chemical/physical laboratory testing to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials for research and development of new products or processes, quality control, maintenance of environmental standards, and other work involving experimental, theoretical, or practical application of chemistry and related sciences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Solves problems in limited area
  • Knows and performs most lab methods within area of responsibility
  • Can edit lab models without help and can write new lab models with help from senior technicians or scientists.
  • Interprets data and draws conclusions by limited application of theory
  • Performs analyses on production and lab samples by various techniques (i.e. pH, GC, NMR, HPLC, KF, etc.) and reports data
  • Performs lab experiments, including executing instructions for small and medium scale preparation of intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) including small molecule organic synthesis
  • Work with scientists to provide experimental reports when needed
  • Supports the manufacturing process by generating data using laboratory process procedures, and providing deviation support
  • Responsible to meet fundamental cGMP requirements relating to their conduct and work practices to ensure the SISPQ (Safety, Identity, Strength, Purity, Quality) of the products manufactured at Evonik Tippecanoe Laboratories.
  • Adhere to ESHS programs, rules, & procedures.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion


REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (0-5 yrs experience) or related area (or HS Diploma and 5 years equivalent work experience) preferred
  • Experience in a laboratory or equivalent work
  • Able to independently execute guided tasks and practice safe and clean laboratory practices
  • Strong math skills – basic understanding of analysis of experimental data
  • Good documentation, communication, interpersonal skills
  • Use of statistical software, HPLC and computer control experience preferred
  • Prior experience with process laboratory work, cGMPs, maintenance of equipment and analytical instruments preferred
