Whether dirt, dust, algae or rust: Weather influences and emissions leave ugly marks on building facades over the years. Because building materials such as sandstone, concrete, bricks or natural stone types are particularly vulnerable to such types of dirt, it is all the more important to have the right protection.

Protectosil® SC building protection products

Protectosil® SC products create easy-to-clean surfaces on mineral substrates. By doing so, they ensure that the facades of buildings and historic monuments look beautiful even after many years. Dirt and microorganisms such as mold, algae or moss do not attach themselves to the facade in the first place, while any dirt is easier to remove or is simply washed off by the rain.

Facade impregnation by UV and weather-resistant products from the Protectosil® SC product range is transparent. Accordingly, the products protect the substance of a building without changing its appearance. They also make it more durable – reducing the amount of maintenance needed, and in turn minimizing the resources and costs needed.

Rain simply washes dirt off the facade

The products also feature a beading effect: When facades are protected with Protectosil®, water and oil roll off them in droplets, carrying dirt and dust off the facade in the process. This is all possible thanks to a combination of special silane molecules. In contrast to systems using other polymers – such as silicone resin – these offer optimum long-term protection.

The portfolio contains the right product for all surface properties and desired protective effects and duration of protection. For instance, Protectosil® SC CONCENTRATE can be used in a particularly wide range of applications and offers especially long-lasting protection. All formulations are easy to use and can also be combined to ensure the best possible protection for your building.

Combined facade protection

It is important to know that products from the Protectosil® SC range do not replace hydrophobization, as the effective molecules are larger in the products in this range. Therefore, they do not penetrate the building substance, but instead form a chemical bond with the substrate surface. Accordingly, building facades are best protected by using a combination of Protectosil® products for hydrophobization and surface protection. This keeps the treated building looking beautiful in the long term and protects it against the weather – see for example the railway station in Stadelhofen, Switzerland, a concrete building that is still withstanding the weather many years after being treated.

The Castle Palace in Budapest, a World Heritage Site and the largest building in Hungary, can be seen from afar on Castle Hill. The impressive sandstone building, which has been reconstructed several times, was not only protected from the outside with Protectosil® WS 630 against the rising damp of the Danube. The walls of the interior are coated with Protectosil® SC CONCENTRATE, which significantly reduces cleaning costs.

The terraces of a theme park chain in Florida, USA, which has some varied theme parks to offer, are very popular. Protectosil® BHN PLUS ensures that stains can be easily cleaned with a hose.
