Silica for state-of-the-art hair styling
Styling gels, creams, waxes, powders and sprays must be convenient to dispense and easy to apply. Silicas from Evonik provide manufacturers of hair care products with a toolkit of multifunctional additives for rheology control, as surfactants and as carriers. Different silica types allow the formulation to be adapted to the desired styling efficiency, from a natural look to extreme styling effects. Additionally, silicas help increase the hair’s volume. In hair color formulations, AEROSIL® fumed silica controls rheology, stabilizes dispersions, and increases viscosity. In powdered components of dyes and colors for self-mixing, it prevents moistening and caking, guaranteeing good free-flow properties and stability, even after extended storage.
Silica for liquid and dry shampoos
Evonik’s silica contributes to excellent performance, convenience and sustainability in modern hair cleansing products. Synthetic amorphous silica is a naturally derived mineral ingredient that complies with ISO 16128 and is suited for organic and vegan formulations. In liquid shampoos, AEROSIL® fumed silica is used to control rheology: shampoo pours smoothly from the bottle and spreads easily in the hair. As highly absorbent carriers, SIPERNAT® products transform liquids into powders, ensuring homogeneous mixing of shampoo ingredients. In novel types of dry shampoo featuring compacted products and no-rinse foam formulations or sprays, SIPERNAT® and AEROSIL® grades absorb excess oil and volumize the hair.
