Role Overview

We are looking for a Consultant Data Management who combines strong operational expertise in SAP master data / MDM with a growing understanding of AI-ready data. In this role, you act as the central contact person for divisions and functional units on data lifecycle, data quality, and master data governance topics – while also contributing to Evonik’s AI-Ready Data initiative by helping to prepare, structure, and enrich data so it can be reliably used as a foundation for AI applications.

Key Responsibilities

Data Management & Governance (core tasks)

  • Act as the expert for the relevant data domain(s) and primary contact person for divisions and functional units, driving continuous process improvement in this key-contact role.
  • Conduct regular knowledge-sharing sessions to capture “lessons learned” and streamline processes across the Data Community.
  • Serve as the contact person for designing further technical development of the data lifecycle processes.
  • Foster process improvements and support the administration of data management processes.
  • Continuously review and safeguard the quality of process documentation; deliver training sessions for the Data Community.
  • Support the implementation of projects and change requests, with a focus on extended data preparation and data curation.
  • Ensure Data Readiness for AI Use Cases and know the framekwork to do so.
  • Identify areas for data quality improvement and help resolve data quality issues through appropriate error detection, correction, and process control methods.
  • Report on the status of master data setup workflows across the organization; define and monitor KPIs and alerts for timeliness, accuracy, and error conditions.
  • Check and verify records submitted by the business as the final validation step for user requests.
  • Ensure alignment of master data authorization for stakeholders and support related applications (e.g., Concur).
  • Initiate process improvements and keep existing process documentation and work instructions up to date.
  • Participate in compliance audits and respond to audit queries as required (e.g., fraud-prevention processes such as the four-eyes principle).
  • Provide backup coverage and perform other duties, including shift rotation with team members under the “Buddy System” as required.
  • Support system integration or regression testing during project and change implementations, where required.
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, training, and continuous improvement of a global setup/maintenance process within the assigned data domains.
  • Drive automation initiatives (e.g., BRF+) and data quality improvements, working closely with product owners (Team Leads) and other business units to improve data-onboarding productivity and turnaround times.

AI-Readiness (extended scope)

  • Enable AI Data Readiness for the business, positioning data as a reliable foundation for AI use cases and applications.
  • Support the transformation of operational, traditionally curated master data into standardized, governed, and reusable “AI-ready” data assets.
  • Contribute to the definition of metadata, business glossaries, and semantic layers (e.g., business terms, synonyms, calculation logic) to make data understandable for both business users and AI agents/models.
  • Participate in AI Discovery Workshops and data-readiness assessments together with business stakeholders to evaluate use cases and identify the data requirements for AI adoption.
  • Support the identification and resolution of data quality issues relevant to AI/ML consumption (e.g., completeness, consistency, machine-readability) in collaboration with Data Domain Management and AI teams.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of Evonik’s AI-ready data framework and Data Catalog, ensuring data products remain discoverable, governed, and reusable for analytics and AI use cases.

Technical Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in SAP MDM / Data Management / Data Governance (mandatory).
  • Experience in a shared-service industry environment (optional, but advantageous).
  • Experience in the field of AI-ready data and the application of AI within Enterprise Data Management.
  • Knowledge of SAP AI capabilities (SAP BTP), including basic exposure to SAP Datasphere/SAP HANA and data-provisioning concepts for analytics and AI use cases.
  • Previous experience with SAP ERP systems is an added advantage.
  • Working experience in an S/4HANA environment is a plus.
  • University degree, preferably in IT, Business, Engineering, or a comparable field.
  • Solid knowledge of working with SAP MDM.
  • Good analytical and learning skills, with the ability to understand complex situations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience creating Power BI reports.
  • Basic understanding of metadata management, business glossaries, and semantic layers to support AI-ready data structuring.

Standard Requirements

  • Good understanding and application of tools, principles, concepts, and techniques related to requirements, data, usability, and process analysis.
  • Strong conceptual ability to grasp complex problems/information and represent ideas in a simple, easy-to-understand way.
  • Ability to understand business processes from a customer perspective.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, effectively interacting with others.
  • Detail-oriented team player with strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Self-directed, with experience managing priorities and timelines.
  • Results-oriented, demonstrating adaptability, flexibility, and resourcefulness.
  • Very good command of English and work experience in a multi-national environment.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts (2 shifts, 24/5), with ROTA changes on a biweekly basis.
