AMS (Alpha Methyl Styrenes)

Alpha mehtyl styrene (AMS) is a precursor to plasticizers, resins, and polymers

Alpha mehtyl styrene (AMS)  is a derivative of styrene, with a methyl group attached to the alpha position of the benzene ring. AMS and acetophenone are byproducts formed in a variation of the cumene process. It can also be produced by dehydrogenation of cumene. AMS is highly reactive and can polymerize readily, making it an important building block for the production of a wide range of polymers and copolymers. In addition to its use as a monomer, AMS is also used as a solvent and as a chemical intermediate in the production of other chemicals. AMS is also used as a solvent for resins, oils, and waxes, as well as in the production of adhesives and coatings.
