Lubricating Greases

Everything runs smoothly

Nothing works in automotive engineering without lubricating greases that keep gear wheels, cardan shafts and other components running smoothly. AEROSIL® fumed silica products from Evonik help grease manufacturers to meet the highest demands on lubricating greases for automotive applications. They offer various effects to enhance the properties of soap and non-soap greases. First and foremost, AEROSIL® helps to build a stable matrix to increase viscosity and suppress oil separation in lubricating greases. But the different types of silica can do much more: Hydrophilic AEROSIL® increases heat resistance in high-temperature applications up to 230° C, improves wear resistance and reduces friction, and it provides long term storage stability. Hydrophobic AEROSIL® is used for rheology control, and it also provides excellent oxidation resistance against water and chemicals.

Silica as an additive can even improve the optical properties of lubricating greases: The typical yellowish tint of conventional metal soaps is undesirable for applications in visible areas, such as the running rails of car seats, especially in the premium segment. Silica as an additive enables the production of transparent lubricating greases.
