Concrete buildings characterise the image of cities all over the world. However, penetrating moisture and the pollutants in it threaten to affect the building fabric and reinforced concrete over time. To preserve bridges, multi-storey car parks, residential and commercial buildings for as long as possible, Evonik has developed PROTECTOSIL®, a silane-based product. Silanes give concrete a reliable water-repellent protection without restricting its breathability. PROTECTOSIL® also effectively protects reinforced concrete against corrosion. Concrete facades that have been treated with special PROTECTOSIL® products are easy-to-clean of dirt, moss and algae as well. The same applies to graffiti, which does not adhere to concrete treated with PROTECTOSIL® and can therefore be easily removed. One brand – many benefits for concrete buildings.
As early as the construction phase, care must be taken to preserve the building fabric as long as possible. For reinforced concrete structures such as bridges, multi-storey car parks and harbor facilities, this means protecting the passivation layer of the steel against penetrating moisture and pollutants dissolved in it. With silane-based PROTECTOSIL®, Evonik offers an admixture that lays the foundations for creating a water-repellent passivation layer during construction. At the same time the building fabric remains breathable so that moisture can be released to the outside. The silanes in PROTECTOSIL® also demonstrate their qualities during maintenance work. When added to the repair mortar, they bond with the steel surface in the affected areas and form a water-repellent passivation layer that permanently protects reinforced concrete.
