Top coats are the final protective layer of coating systems and play a crucial role in the long-term resistance of surfaces to weathering, UV radiation and chemical attack. Silanes are often key components in modern top coat formulations. They improve adhesion between the top coat and the underlying coating, reducing chipping and leakage. At the same time, they increase the hydrophobicity of the top coat so that moisture is better repelled. Silanes such as DYNASYLAN® also contribute to chemical cross-linking, which increases the hardness, elasticity and abrasion resistance of the top coat. These properties make silane-modified topcoats particularly suitable for applications in demanding environments.
