The tire treads are what bring cars into contact with the road. Thus, they have an impact on driving performance, but also on driving safety, fuel consumption, and the range of electric vehicles. The Silica/Silane-system of Evonik enables the tire industry to improve the wet grip performance and shorten the braking distance, while at the same lower the rolling resistance and reduce abrasion. ULTRASIL® rubber silica is a long-established active filler in tire rubber compounds. Coupled with silanes as adhesion promoter between the silica and the rubber, it has paved the way for safe, durable and fuel-saving “green tires”. In passenger car tires, the Silica/Silane-system can reduce fuel consumption by up to eight percent, while electric cars extend their range. This could be further optimized if the Silica/Silane-system were also processed in other parts of tires.
