Evonik offers advanced water treatment solutions that address key industry concerns.
In municipal wastewater, treatment with peracetic acid reduces viruses, bacteria, fungi, and spores which would have an environmental impact down to acceptable levels. Meanwhile, peracetic acid itself leaves minimal chemical trace on the environment, as it breaks down into only biodegradable substances.
In industrial wastewater, hydrogen peroxide is used in the "advanced oxidation process", or AOP. AOP involves the addition of components that activate the hydrogen peroxide - such as iron salts (Fenton's reagent), ozone, or ultraviolet light - for the degradation of recalcitrant pollutants. This is especially useful for treating various refinery effluents and wastewater from chemical or pharmaceutical facilities.
