Silica from Evonik is a safe, proven and highly efficient free flow aid and anti-caking agent which has been used for many decades. In the European Union, synthetic amorphous silica (SAS) is approved as a food additive with the identification number E 551. E numbers are assigned only to substances that have been tested, declared safe and deemed technologically necessary.

Processing and handling powdered foods – such as egg and dairy powder, spices, seasonings, flavors, fruit and vegetable powders, coffee creamers, powdered beverages and dietary supplements – necessitates the use of anti-caking agents. Caking can create serious problems during production, processing, dosing, storage and consumer use.

Evonik’s AEROSIL® silica, along with SIPERNAT® silicates, act as spacers between fine powder particles, ensuring excellent flowability during processing. Their outstanding absorption capacity also allows them to take up moisture or oil from the powder surface. This reduces stickiness and prevents caking during both storage and handling.

Evonik’s silica is a naturally derived mineral ingredient. Its structure is indistinguishable from naturally occurring amorphous silica found in plants. As a safe and approved food additive (E 551), silica enhances efficiency and sustainability in all stages of the food value chain.
