Rubber is widely used in industrial applications and leisure products. Most colored rubber products are reinforced with the Silica/Silane-system silanes as reinforcing fillers. In combination with silica, silanes significantly improve the physical properties of rubber compounds. Not least because silanes act as adhesion promoters to ensure that silica and rubber can bond. Due to silanes, silica-filled rubber compounds can be processed more easily. The manufactured products are more resistant to abrasion and have greater tensile strength, extending the service life of the products. Evonik has developed a wide range of silica under the ULTRASIL® brand as well as specialty silanes, such as COUPSIL® and DYNASYLAN®. They all contribute to minimizing abrasion and rolling resistance of rubber, which helps save energy in conveyor belts amongst others. To achieve this sustainable effect Evonik can customize silanes and silica to meet specific customer requirements.
