BDO, GBL, THF (Butanediols, Gamma Butyrolacetones, Tetrahydrofuranes)

Value added chemicals, with BDO acting as raw materaial for the production of GBL and THF

1,4-Butanediol (BDO) is a high-added-value chemical and an important intermediate for many chemical processes. It is used in polymerization processes for the synthesis of polyesters, polyurethanes, and polyethers. Moreover, it is the most relevant raw material to produce the chemical intermediates γ-butyrolactone (GBL) and tetrahydrofuran (THF).  GBL is used as a solvent, a cleaning agent, a flavoring agent, and as a precursor for the production of other chemicals such as pyrrolidones and N-methylpyrrolidone. It is also used in the pharmaceutical industry as a drug delivery system and as a precursor for the synthesis of certain drugs. THF is a widely used solvent, but it is also used in the production of flexible polyurethane foams, spandex fibers, and as a solvent for printing inks and coatings. All three chemicals, BDO, GBL, and THF, have numerous applications in various industries including chemical, pharmaceutical, textile, agricultural, and automotive.
