Binders & Resins

Binding Strength through Advanced Chemistry

Silane-modified polymers (SMP) are the resins of choice for the adhesive and sealants market, as they provide excellent adhesion and elasticity. We supply a range of SMPs which are used as binding agents in the manufacture of adhesives and sealants. Our products enable the development of classification-free formulations for different industries like construction, automotive, in parquet adhesives, medical applications or in electronics, for example in thermally conductive polymer filling compounds for e-mobility.

Binders are key components that perform a variety of functions in paints and coatings. They not only bind all the components of the paint and ensure optimum pigment wetting, but also promote adhesion, durability, flexibility and other important physical properties of the coating.

Silanes can be used in the production process to develop high-performance binders. Silanes, such as those in Evonik’s DYNASYLAN® product portfolio, modify the synthetic resins that form the main component of binders. Even small amounts of silanes significantly improve the performance of the binders: They increase the adhesion of paints and coatings, improve their abrasion resistance, and significantly extend the durability of coating systems.

Waterborne coatings for optimum performance

The advantages of this modification with silanes are becoming increasingly important, especially in the field of waterborne coatings. While these environmentally friendly formulations are increasingly in demand due to their sustainability, manufacturers are faced with the challenge of optimizing their performance. Silane-modified binders offer an innovative solution: They significantly increase the resistance and performance of waterborne coatings without compromising environmental compatibility. They therefore open up new possibilities for high-performance, sustainable coating solutions in demanding applications.
