Aluminum Oxide for Ceramics: Slide Plate
The Challenge
Silica based insulation materials are widely used for high temperature insulation. But even Evonik’s high purity AEROSIL® grades can only be used at temperatures up to max. 1000 °C when sintering becomes dominant. Most molten metal processes require temperature stabilities above 1000 °C for the insulation. Refractories – ceramic based direct contact materials – require even higher temperatures.

AEROXIDE® Alu C improves the oxidation resistance performance of slide gates and slide plates significantly, which also results in a longer service life.
Fumed alumina in-situ induces the formation of whisker-like substances (SiC) which reinforce and toughen the matrix of Al2O3-C slide plates. This increases their reliability and durability.
