The sustainable use of resources, systematic waste management, and circular economy are important for Evonik Smart Effects in the light of planetary boundaries and the diversification of raw materials. Circular economy enables us to decouple production from fossil and other finite resources, making our business more resilient for the future. By keeping resources in use for as long as possible, we strengthen raw material security and reduce dependency on fossil and mineral sources.
Our targets
Target | Year | Status 2024 | Icon |
---|---|---|---|
Reduce specific production waste per production volume by 10% compared to 2021 | 2030 | +1.8% | ⏳ In progress |
Implement circular raw materials (recycled and biobased) at selected sites | 2030 | 60% | ⏳ In progress |
Actions to achieve our targets
We are implementing a broad range of measures at our production sites. Here are some examples:
By working closely with customers and partners, we transform today’s waste streams into valuable raw materials for tomorrow. This approach boosts resource efficiency, supports the transition to a circular economy, and pays-off when it comes to even cost-competitive processes. One example is bio-circular silica, produced from sodium silicate derived from rice husk ash (RHA), which significantly lowers the CO₂ footprint compared to conventional production methods.
