Silanes for Building protection

THE CHALLENGE: Preventing water penetration which causes reinforcement to rust and bridges to age prematurely.

THE SOLUTION: Impregnating systems with silanes makes mineral surfaces water-repellent. These solutions penetrate deep into the substrate, providing long-lasting protection against water and chloride ingress.

THE SMART EFFECT: The service life of a structure can be extended by several decades for less than 0.5% of its total cost with the help of Evonik’s PROTECTOSIL® silane solutions. Minimizing the need for frequent repairs and replacements saves costs and resources as the production of new building materials, especially concrete, consumes large amounts of raw materials and releases large quantities of CO₂.

Efforts to regulate PFAS (per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances) at the international level – and thus protect the environment from so-called “forever chemicals” – date back to the mid-2000s. Some PFAS have already been restricted from consumer and industrial products.

Evonik's Silanes for Hydrophobization
