Propylene Oxides

Propylene oxide is an important intermediate chemical

Propylene oxide is a versatile chemical that offers many benefits, including its ability to react with a wide range of other chemicals to produce a variety of products. One of the most important uses of propylene oxide is in the production of polyurethane foams. Polyurethane foams are used in a variety of applications, including furniture, bedding, and insulation. Propylene oxide is used as a raw material in the production of polyether polyols, which are the primary building blocks of polyurethane foams. Propylene oxide is also used in the production of propylene glycol, which is a versatile chemical that is used as a solvent, lubricant, and antifreeze in a variety of applications. Industrial production of propylene oxide starts from propylene. Two general approaches are employed, one involving hydrochlorination and the other involving oxidation.
