The Herne site is one of Evonik’s global locations and is among the production sites for manufacturing raw materials for the paints and coatings industry as well as the wind energy sector.
At the heart of the Herne site is isophorone chemistry, which forms the basis for producing high‑quality crosslinkers. These raw materials excel in numerous application areas, including brilliant colors, scratch‑resistant and weather‑stable automotive coatings, high‑quality interior components for passenger cars, and solvent‑free industrial floor coatings. They also provide corrosion protection for bridges, scaffolding, and locks, and ensure high strength in rotor blades for wind turbines — to name just a few examples.
For the region, Evonik’s Herne site is an important economic hub. Around 400 people work on the approximately 25‑hectare site.
