Solid Surface Materials (Artificial Marble & Engineered Stone)
Artificial stone—also known as acrylic solid surface—is a composite of fillers and acrylic polymers designed to replicate natural stone with improved processability and cost-efficiency. Evonik’s VISIOMER® Specialty Methacrylates allow formulators to fine-tune flexibility, rigidity, and sustainability—making them ideal for customized high-performance solid surface applications:
- VISIOMER® EGDMA, VISIOMER® 1,4-BDDMA, VISIOMER® TMPTMA, VISIOMER® PEG 200 DMA – Crosslinkers that boost impact resistance, mechanical strength, and thermal stability while minimizing shrinkage.
- VISIOMER® Terra IBOMA – A bio-based hydrophobic monomer that enhances scratch resistance, dimensional stability, and durability in hot water environments.
- VISIOMER® HEMA-P – A polymerizable dispersant that improves filler dispersion, reduces viscosity, and enables higher filler loadings without sagging.
- VISIOMER® Terra ISDMA - A bio-based monomer, which is used as a crosslinker in reactive resin applications and as a comonomer in emulsion polymerization for core-shell acrylic binders, providing high scratch resistance, excellent thermomechanical properties, durability as well as low polymerization shrinkage.
Filler Surface Treatment & Adhesion Enhancement
To ensure optimal bonding between fillers and resin matrices, Evonik offers Dynasylan® silane technologies:
- Dynasylan® SIVO 560 – A multifunctional silane that improves filler compatibility, enhances mechanical properties, and supports long-term durability in artificial stone composites.
Dynasylan® silanes are especially effective in treating mineral fillers like wollastonite, enabling better dispersion and stronger adhesion, and improved mechanical performance in solid surface formulations.
