VESTAKEEP® i-Grades are Evonik’s biomaterials for permanent orthopedic implants. They are biocompatible, have excellent mechanical properties and are extremely reliable. The extra high purity and extensive quality measures make VESTAKEEP® i-Grades an ideal material for long-term orthopedic implants.

DEGAPLAST® acrylic based resins for extremities

In the orthopedics field, Evonik offers DEGAPLAST® resins, formulations based on methyl methacrylate (MMA), solved polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and special modifiers. DEGAPLAST®-based lamination systems, made with plastics, are used in handcrafting prosthetics. These resins are strong, lightweight, dimensionally stable, and easy to maintain, making them suitable for prosthetics.

We offer advanced biomaterials for prosthetic liners and damping elements. Our products, including DEGACRYL®, provide exceptional cushioning and comfort for amputees. These materials are designed to reduce pressure points, absorb shock, and enhance overall prosthetic performance.

DEGACRYL® raw materials are tailor made for orthopedic applications, with well-defined properties in relation to particle size, molar mass and viscosity. DEGACRYL® provides a secure anchor for the prosthetic device and an elastic zone, reducing stress on the new implant to bone interface.

VESTAKEEP® PEEK polyether ether ketone molding materials for spinal applications

Because of its bone-like mechanical properties and X-ray transparency, VESTAKEEP® PEEK is the material of choice in many spinal implant applications. Its transparency is an advantage for orthopedic doctors and patients, by using imaging methods for more accurate implant placement, and monitoring of the healing process.

Traditionally, metals have been used in spinal cages and other implants in the human body, but over time Evonik’s VESTAKEEP® PEEK has proven a serious and even more desirable alternative which have many advantages over metal, such as avoidance of stress shielding effect, x-ray opacity and high wear comfort. VESTAKEEP® i-Grades and VESTAKEEP® Fusion have been created to fill these needs.

DEGACRYL® products are acrylic based resins for the manufacturing of composites - necessary for interlinking prosthetics to the human body. For orthopedics, DEGACRYL® raw materials are tailor made with well-defined properties in relation to particle size, molar mass and viscosity. Beside cementation of prostheses, DEGACRYL® products are also suitable as raw materials for vertebral augmentation procedures.​​

RESOMER® bioresorbable polymers for sports medicine

Evonik's RESOMER® portfolio of biodegradable polymers can be used in sports medicine applications, notably as a material for screws. RESOMER® is biocompatible, safe, and stable after sterilization, providing a robust solution for sports medicine and orthopedic applications. Crucially, the material offers a wide range of degradation profiles and tailorable mechanical properties, making it an ideal material for customizing screws to meet specific patient needs and reducing the need for follow-up procedures.

Our biomaterials are extensively used in trauma surgery and orthopedics to facilitate bone healing and restoration. We provide bioresorbable polymers like RESOMER®, which act as scaffolds for new bone formation. These materials gradually degrade over time, allowing natural bone regeneration while providing initial mechanical support.

RESOMER® bioresorbable polymers for trauma surgery applications

Evonik offers RESOMER® biomaterials for orthopedic trauma surgery applications, such as screws, plates, pins, rods, and nails that can fix open fractures and other bone injuries. These biomaterials are based on bioresorbable polymers that can degrade in the body over time and do not require a second surgery for removal. 

These biomaterials can reduce the risk of infection, inflammation, and stress shielding that may occur with metal implants. They can promote bone healing and regeneration by providing mechanical stability and osteoconductivity. They can be also be tailored to match the desired degradation rate, mechanical strength, and shape of the orthopedic implant.
